Our Origins

The words “Kitji” & “Manitou” mean the great spirit in North American aboriginal language. Kitjimanitou is meant to be representative of the software in computing. The software of your computer is often abstract, unseen and can be considered the spirit of the computer.

Our Vision

At Kitji Studios, our software is engineered to be the great spirit of your system. The Kitji logo embodies the great animal spirit of Anansi.  Anansi, an African and Caribbean folklore character, represents the spirit of knowledge and is often portrayed as a spider. The spider and its attributes are the perfect personification of the major aspects of computing, which have all been integrated into the Kitji logo. The abdomen of Anansi is reminiscent of the CPU and its circuitry. Anansi spins a web representative of the World Wide Web, and he speaks in binary

Our Story

When starting the company I wanted to root the organization in history and purpose. I struggled to find a name and icon fitting for the vision of what we do and who we are. We had to promote greatness and have integrity as one of our pillars. On a road trip with a very good friend, Sara, we stopped at a aboriginal community and Sara introduced me to the community Chief. I asked him for an aboriginal translations of the words "Great" and "Spirit". This was admittedly reminiscent of how Canada got its anglicized name from the aboriginal word "Kanata". The Chief willingly shared the name and the phonetic expression and there Kitjimanitou was born.

Finding an appropriate imagery and icon for the company was equally difficult. Another inspirational person, Dalia, drew me a crude drawing on a piece of paper and I was instantly inspired. I made the initial drawing of the Kitji logo and even created a backstory behind the logo. Have a look at our original logo .
